Adimec Expands TMX Series with Global Shutter CMOS Cameras at SPIE DSS 2015
At this year’s SPIE Defense, Security & Sensing (DSS) conference in booth #929, Adimec announced the expansion of its TMX series, introducing rugged Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) cameras tailored for the global security market. These new variants feature global shutter CMOS image sensors, marking a significant enhancement to their capabilities.
Key Features and Specifications
-
The TMX74-60c/CL Camera
- This model is the first rugged camera in the series with full HD resolution (1920 x 1080) and daylight performance, powered by GS-CMOS technology.
- It excels in color imaging across varying light conditions, delivering sharp contrast thanks to Sony’s latest IMX174 CMOS image sensors. These sensors offer notable improvements in both quality and sensitivity.
-
Design for Harsh Environments
- The camera is engineered for use in demanding operational settings—compact, lightweight, and low-power consumption.
- It uses the Camera Link base interface, ensuring seamless integration with standard frame grabbers at full HD resolution while maintaining up to 60 fps or 30 fps for RGB color images.
Series Options and Customization
The TMX series offers flexibility beyond CMOS sensors:
- Compatibility with various CCD image sensor options.
- Remote sensor heads, cube outlines, or board-level configurations tailored to specific needs.
- Available in monochrome or color versions, both enhanced by Adimec’s proprietary color processing for superior real-time performance under changing outdoor conditions.
Multiple interfaces are supported: Analog, HD-SDI, 3G-SDI, CoaXPress, and Camera Link. Although customization is possible, the extensive range of standard configurations typically meets most security program requirements.
Rugged Performance Certification
All TMX cameras undergo rigorous testing per MIL-STD-810G, including:
- Extended temperature ranges (-40°C to +71°C)
- EMC/EMI immunity
- Vibration, shock, humidity, altitude, salt fog, and fog resistance tests.
A full acceptance test with optional thermal cycling ensures reliability throughout the operational life of the product. This commitment results in minimal failure rates and proactive obsolescence management for long-term deployments.
Real-World Applications
TMX cameras are being integrated into numerous defense projects worldwide:
- Airborne surveillance systems
- Ground vehicle-based observation platforms
- Situational awareness tools
These solutions consistently enhance detection, recognition, and identification capabilities while adhering to strict constraints on size, weight, power, and cost.
