Adimec Announces Successful Award of Two Major European Projects: Advancing CMOS Image Sensor Technology
Adimec, in collaboration with several industry partners, has secured two significant projects aimed at advancing CMOS image sensor technology: CISTERN and EXIST. Both initiatives commenced in April/May 2015 and are scheduled for completion by 2018.
CISTERN: Objectives and Partners The acronym CISTERN stands for “Cmos Image Sensor TEchnologies’ Readiness for Next generation of applications.” This program focuses on researching advanced CMOS image sensor technologies essential for future developments across industries such as broadcast & entertainment, high-end security, and multi-spectral imaging. The consortium includes Grass Valley (project leader), Thales Angenieux, SoftKinetic Sensors, Delft University of Technology, and the University of Burgundy.
Adimec’s Contribution to CISTERN As part of this collaborative effort, Adimec will leverage its expertise in video processing development tailored for security applications and integrated camera lens assemblies. The project was funded by CATRENE (Cluster for Application and Technology Research in Europe on NanoElectronics), which aims to deliver nano-/microelectronics solutions that address societal needs.
EXIST: Next-Generation Imaging Sensor Technologies The EXIST consortium, centered around “EXteneded Imaging Sensor Technologies,” will focus on developing innovative technologies for image sensors suited for the next two generations of systems designed to enhance citizen security, safety, and healthcare. Research efforts will concentrate on improving CMOS imaging capabilities in terms of sensitivity, dynamic range, quantum efficiency, hyperspectral, and multispectral performance.
EXIST Partners and Adimec’s Role This consortium brings together leading R&D institutions including IMEC, Fraunhofer IMS, Le2i, TNO, iMinds, and TU Delft, alongside fabless design houses, semiconductor manufacturers (Sofradir), system integrators (CMOSIS, Grass Valley, SoftKinetic, Thales Angenieux, Adimec, Silios, Focal, Quest). Adimec will contribute specialized video processing developments optimized for high data rates and multi/hyperspectral cameras used in security and medical applications.
Both CISTERN and EXIST are supported by ECSEL JU (Electronic Components and Systems for European Leadership Joint Undertaking), which funds impactful innovation projects essential for sustainable economic growth. Adimec’s CEO emphasized the company’s commitment to these initiatives, stating that they enable open collaboration between industry leaders to advance imaging technology capabilities.
These developments from both programs will serve as foundational elements for all partners involved in bringing innovative products to market.
