Adimec Showcases Advanced Rugged Cameras at SPIE DCS 2016
At the 2016 SPIE DCS conference, Adimec presented two types of rugged cameras: one based on a Sony CCD sensor and the other featuring their latest CMOS technology.
The demonstration included side-by-side comparisons between models. On the left were TMX7-DHD cameras equipped with Sony’s ICX674 CCD image sensors—top was color version, bottom monochrome. The right featured TMX50 series cameras employing Sony’s newest IMX250 global shutter CMOS sensor alongside Adimec proprietary Adaptive Resolution technology.
Adimec’s Adaptive Resolution allows users to select output resolutions matching other optical formats or emulate specific outputs like the 1920×1080 resolution from their CCD counterpart. This system ensures consistent field of view despite differences in pixel count and size between sensors, enabling straightforward upgrades from CCD to CMOS systems without changing optics.
To illustrate performance under challenging conditions, Adimec created a low-light scene with simulated smoke to highlight the cameras’ capabilities. Results showed that even though CMOS sensors have smaller pixels, they deliver superior image quality—particularly noticeable in color footage despite monitors not fully capturing all advantages.
