Allied Vision continues to expand its Alvium 1800 U camera lineup by introducing three new models featuring Sony’s fourth-generation IMX sensors equipped with Pregius S global shutter technology. These latest additions—Alvium 1800 U-511 (Sony IMX547), Alvium 1800 U-811 (Sony IMX546), and Alvium 1800 U-1242 (Sony IMX545)—increase the total number of USB3 interface models in this series to nineteen. The cameras come with various housing options including closed enclosures, open structures, or bareboards; they can be configured as monochrome or color variants, and support multiple lens mounts.

Diverse Sensor Options for Varied Applications

High Resolution on a Compact Form Factor

The Alvium 1800 U-511 utilizes the Sony IMX547 sensor—a global shutter device measuring an optical format of 1/1.8’’. It represents the first commercially available five-point-one-megapixel global shutter sensor from Sony compatible with Allied Vision’s compact S-mount lenses. Despite its high resolution, this sensor maintains the same aspect ratio as comparable sensors like IMX264 but at a significantly reduced physical size. When compared to Sony’s IMX265 found in earlier models such as Alvium U-319 or Mako G-319, which offers similar image quality with nearly identical dimensions, the IMX547 provides superior resolution without sacrificing sensor size.

Square Sensor for Uniform Imaging

The Alvium 1800 U-811 is equipped with a Sony IMX546 square sensor delivering eight-point-one megapixels. Its symmetrical design makes it ideal for tasks requiring uniform image capture, particularly suited for inspecting circular and rectangular subjects or integrating into microscope systems.

Compact Design Without Compromising Resolution

The Alvium 1800 U-1242 stands out with its Sony IMX545 sensor offering twelve-point-four megapixels. With a pixel pitch of just two-point-seven-four microns, this sensor achieves higher resolution than previous generations like the IMX304 while occupying less space.

All models include digital binning functionality for both color and monochrome images, allowing pixels to be combined vertically or horizontally—or in combination—for factors up. This enhancement enables adjustable image downsampling that preserves light sensitivity by averaging pixel values or summing selected areas.

Enhanced Features Across the Entire Series

Digital Binning

A new standard feature across all Alvium 1800 U models is digital binning for both mono and color images, allowing pixels to be combined along horizontal, vertical directions, or in dual-axis configurations with factors ranging from one through eight. Users can select either average averaging or summing modes during configuration.

Power Efficiency

The series now includes the U3 power-saving mode, reducing current draw to 16mA (80mW) when inactive between captures—a feature especially beneficial for battery-opericted devices where minimizing energy usage between shots is critical. Upon reactivation, cameras resume operation within one-point-five seconds.
