Allied Vision has expanded its popular Alvium Camera Series by adding three high-performance models featuring Sony’s fourth-generation IMX back-illuminated CMOS sensors with Pregius S global shutter technology. These new cameras include the Alvium 1800 U-2460, Alvium 1800 U-2040, and Alvium 1800 U-1620. Combining a compact “sugar cube” design with large, high-resolution sensors, these cameras deliver exceptional image quality in a compact form factor.

Alvium 1800 U-2460

Equipped with the Sony IMX540 sensor, this model offers an impressive resolution of 24.6 megapixels and features both USB3 and MIPI CSI-2 interfaces.

Alvium 1800 U-2040: Ideal for Microscopy Applications

This is the first model in the series with a square sensor format combined with a C-mount lens, making it perfect for microscopy. It uses the Sony IMX541 sensor (20.4 megapixels), enabling a frame rate of 17 fps.

Alvium 1800 U-1620: Wide Format for ITS Applications

Featuring the Sony IMX542 sensor with a wide 16:9 aspect ratio, this camera offers nearly double the resolution compared to Sony’s second-generation IMX265 sensor at the same size. This makes it ideal for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) requiring high-resolution imaging.

Key Features of the New Sensors

All three sensors utilize an improved back-illuminated pixel architecture that captures light more effectively, leading to higher quantum efficiency (QE). The combination of high QE, low readout noise, and superior spatial resolution ensures excellent image quality with a wide dynamic range. Despite smaller pixel sizes (2.74μm), the cameras achieve higher resolutions.

Near-Infrared Enhanced Color Camera

In addition to these models, Allied Vision has introduced the Alvium 1800 U-501c NIR, an enhanced color camera specifically optimized for low-light conditions (e.g., dawn or dusk). This model uses OnSemi’s rolling shutter sensor AR0522, which excels in the near-infrared region of the spectrum.
