Allied Vision Launches High-Resolution Alvium CSI-2 Camera with Sony Fourth Generation Sensors
May 6, 2021
Allied Vision has announced the release of its Alvium 1800 C-2460, a groundbreaking high-resolution camera series equipped with Sony’s fourth-generation IMX540 sensors. This new addition to their CSI-2 lineup combines advanced sensor technology with compact design, offering exceptional image quality and innovative features for developers and engineers.
Key Highlights of the Alvium 1800 C-2460
The Alvium 1800 C-2460 is distinguished by its “sugar cube” form factor—compact yet powerful. It houses a high-quality Sony IMX540 back-illuminated CMOS sensor with Pregius S global shutter technology, delivering:
- Ultra-High Resolution: 24.6 megapixels (resolutions up to 5328 × 4608 pixels)
- Type 1.2 Sensor Size (equivalent to a 19.3 mm diagonal sensor)
- Pixel Size: Compact 2.74 µm per pixel enables high resolution and precision
This combination results in superior image quality with excellent dynamic range, quantum efficiency, and low readout noise—ideal for demanding applications requiring precise imaging.
Advanced Features
The Alvium series now supports both 10-bit and 12-bit raw pixel formats, enhancing bit depth for more detailed image data. This is particularly beneficial for complex analysis tasks where accuracy matters most.
Additionally, the new model introduces:
- Exposure Active Output (Flash Out Signal): A novel feature allowing GPIO pins to function as output signals during exposure cycles.
- This enables triggering external devices and signaling status updates—especially useful in lighting control scenarios.
Compatibility with NVIDIA Jetson Modules
Allied Vision has also released a new MIPI CSI-2 driver for NVIDIA Jetson platforms, including the Jetson Nano™, supporting:
- NVIDIA JetPack™ SDK version 4.4.1 (L4T 32.4.4)
- A beta driver for JetPack 4.5.1 (L4T 32.5.1), available shortly
This new driver supports the Alvium C-2460 and all other Alvium cameras with MIPI CSI-2 interfaces, regardless of sensor type.
