Allied Vision Introduces Sony-Powered Polarization Camera at VISION 2018
At the Stuttgart Exhibition Center from November 6 to 8, 2018 (Hall 1, Booth D30), Allied Vision unveiled its latest innovation: the Mako G-508 POL camera equipped with cutting-edge polarization filter technology from Sony. This device leverages a Polarsens™ 5.0 Megapixel IMX250MZR/MYR CMOS sensor, available in monochrome or color variants.
Enhancing Visibility with Polarization Data
The IMX250MZR/MYR CMOS sensor incorporates Sony’s latest four-directional polarization filter technology, featuring an on-chip nanowire polarizing layer. This allows each pixel to capture light polarized along its specific axis (0°, 45°, 90°, or 135°). Four adjacent pixels form a calculation unit that determines both the intensity and angle of polarization for each sensor pixel—similar to debayering in RGB sensors.
By utilizing polarized image data, this camera reduces glare from reflections, enhances contrast in low-light conditions to detect surface shapes, and enables material analysis such as stress detection or composition identification. The Mako G-508 POL eliminates the need for manual filter rotation or replacement, simplifying polarization imaging while reducing system setup costs compared to traditional approaches.
