On July 24, 2018, Allied Vision announced the expansion of its popular ultra-compact and affordable Mako G camera family. The new additions feature second-generation Sony Exmor™ CMOS sensors equipped with Pregius™ global shutter pixel technology. These cameras offer enhanced performance for industrial applications requiring high precision in measurement tasks, especially those involving fast-moving subjects.

Faster Frame Rates and Superior Image Quality

The two new models—Mako G-040 and Mako G-158—are significantly faster than their CCD counterparts. For instance:

  • Mako G-040 vs. Mako G-032:

    • The Mako G-040, with a resolution of 0.4 megapixels (728×544), achieves a frame rate of 286 fps—2.8 times higher than the comparable Mako G-032 CCD camera.
  • Mako G-158 vs. Mako G-125:

    • The Mako G-158, offering a resolution of 1.58 megapixels (1456×1088), reaches 75.2 fps—2.5 times faster than the Mako G-125.

In addition to higher frame rates, these CMOS models provide better image quality due to:

  • A wider dynamic range
  • Lower noise levels (down to a few electrons)
  • Higher uniformity in both dark signal and photo response

The compact sensors also benefit from improved sensitivity thanks to pixel sizes like 6.9 μm for the Mako G-040, enabling shorter exposure times.
