Frank Grube, the esteemed President and CEO of Allied Vision Technologies, passed away suddenly on April 14th, 2018. This loss deeply affected both the company and the wider machine vision community.

A Lifelong Commitment to Vision Technology

Grube dedicated most of his career to advancing computer vision technology. Following the acquisition by Augusta AG in 2000, he transformed Manfred Sticksel CCD Kameratechnik – then renamed Allied Vision Technologies – from a small distributor into a global camera manufacturer.

Through strategic acquisitions and expansion:

  • Renamed company in 2001
  • Acquired Prosilica (Canada) in 2008
  • Purchased VDS Vosskühler (Germany) in 2011
  • Established offices worldwide: US (2006), Singapore (2010), China (2012)

He pioneered the transition to digital interfaces through FireWire cameras and expanded into infrared technology.

Frank Grube was known for his strong human values: “Gentle but demanding” leader who cared deeply about employees’ well-being. Implemented celebratory events, bonuses, and Christmas presents consistently. Donated annually to local charities supporting children – a practice he kept private until Allied Vision’s 25th anniversary in 2014.

Continuing His Legacy

As stated by Alexander van der Lof: “Frank’s spirit obliges us…” The company remains fully operational under its management board, committed to realizing Grube’s vision of making Allied Vision the leading company he envisioned. Andreas Gerk emphasized that Frank’s ambition and fighting spirit remain their inspiration for the future.
