In a resilient market environment hampered by semiconductor component bottlenecks, Basler group achieved significant growth during its fiscal year 2021. Sales climbed 26% to €214.7 million (up from €170.5 million the prior year), while incoming orders surged by 78% to €322.5 million (a jump from €181.6 million). These figures represent new records for both sales and order intake.

The company’s earnings before taxes also saw substantial improvement, rising by 37% to €28.0 million (compared to €20.4 million previously), resulting in a pre-tax margin of 13.0%—an increase from the prior year’s 12.0%.

Notably, despite facing a cyberattack during November, Basler not only met but exceeded industry averages. While the German machine vision components market experienced a 17% sales increase and 28% growth in incoming orders according to VDMA reports, Basler demonstrated stronger performance through its strategic resilience.

Outlook for Fiscal Year 2022

Looking ahead to fiscal year 2022, semiconductor procurement challenges remain the primary constraint on continued expansion. Additionally, geopolitical instability stemming from the war in Ukraine introduces new uncertainties that are currently challenging to quantify.

Nevertheless, management expresses optimism based on recent sales indicators across all regional markets. The company projects full-year sales between €235-€265 million for 2022, contingent upon achieving a pre-tax return within the range of 9-12%.

This forecast incorporates ongoing investment cycles and supply chain improvements, alongside integration efforts from recent acquisitions in Korea. These projections align with Basler’s medium-term objective to reach €400 million in sales by 2025, maintaining an average EBT margin of approximately 12%.
