Solar Building Shells and PV Roofs: Baumer's Green Energy Initiatives
At the Innovation Center Switzerland (left, under construction) and on other Baumer plant buildings, solar technology is being integrated through innovative designs. Visualization credits go to Baume.
Expanding Renewable Energy at the Frauenfeld Site
In June 2023, more than 800 photovoltaic modules with a nominal output of 340 kilowatts peak (kWp) will be installed on buildings at the Frauenfeld site. The Innovation Center’s facade and roof alone are expected to generate 130,000 kWh/year. This project represents an investment of 600,000 Swiss francs, with operations set to begin in August.
Solar Energy Meets 11% of Site Demands
The total anticipated output from these systems is approximately 305,000 kWh per year. This addition will help Baumer meet 11% of its electricity demand at the Frauenfeld site through renewable sources. Notably, green electricity has already been exclusively purchased at all German sites and in Frauenfeld.
Optimizing Energy Use with Smart Heating and Cooling
Beyond solar expansion, the Innovation Center’s design incorporates geothermal probes and heat pumps to optimize heating in winter and cooling in summer, further reducing energy consumption.
