Sustainable Automation with Baumer: Smart Solutions for a Greener Future
At this year’s SPS trade fair in Germany, sensor specialist Baumer is showcasing its latest innovations under the theme “Sustainable automation – shaping a better future together, both economically and ecologically.” Since the last edition of SPS, Baumer has significantly expanded its Sensor Solution Toolbox with numerous smart products designed for resource-saving production.
Positioning, Detection, and Identification
For assembly and handling applications, Baumer’s portfolio of optical sensors has grown considerably following the successful market launch of high-performance miniature photoelectric sensors and proximity switches known as O200. The new ToF sensors OT300 and OT500 are designed to reliably detect objects at distances up to 2.6 meters, even with challenging surfaces or regardless of mounting angle.
These compact sensors come with integrated beam path data in 3D CAD format and an IO-Link interface, making them easy to integrate and configure. Additionally, new ultrasonic and inductive sensors further enhance Baumer’s Sensor Solution Toolbox for handling tasks.
Monitor Fluid Processes
The PAD20 “bubble sensor” represents a groundbreaking innovation—it is the first device of its kind globally. It can detect even minute air bubbles in liquid media while alerting users when gas content exceeds preset limits. This capability helps prevent pump damage caused by dry running.
Complementing this, the CombiLevel PLP70 sets a new standard for floatless level measurement. Its potentiometric design automatically adapts to various liquids—including process water—and features an intuitive touch display that simplifies operation and data visualization.
Measure, Test, and Inspect
For quality inspection applications, Baumer offers advanced sensor solutions. This year’s standout products include precision laser distance sensors from the OM20 and OM30 series alongside updated profile sensors in the OX series. These devices deliver measurement accuracies of 1 micrometer—ideal for high-precision tasks.
Measure Speed and Angular Position
The EB200 encoder series marks a milestone in Baumer’s product lineup, featuring bearingless technology with compact design, high resolution, IO-Link compatibility, and advanced smart functions. These encoders are easily adaptable to applications ranging from speed measurement to angular position tracking. The wide range of industrial, heavy-duty, and outdoor encoders available further demonstrates Baumer’s commitment to comprehensive solutions.
Connect, Network, and Evaluate
Networking is essential for modern production systems. Starting with sensors—Baumer offers one of the most extensive portfolios supporting IO-Link technology. With its award-winning software suite, users can test, configure, and analyze these devices quickly and efficiently—even independent of manufacturer constraints.
Sustainable Automation: Economical and Ecological
For Baumer, sustainable automation extends beyond developing reliable, high-performance sensors for continuous resource-saving operations. The company views sustainability as a long-term partnership with customers—a commitment to delivering innovative solutions consistently. As CEO Dr. Oliver Vietze explains: “Together with our clients, we create added value—even in difficult times.”
