Baumer has announced the expansion of its CX camera series with the fourth generation Sony CMOS sensor, known as Pregius S. This new addition offers resolutions up to 24 megapixels, marking a significant enhancement in imaging capabilities for industrial applications.

The cameras feature an extremely compact design measuring just 29×29 mm. They incorporate a pixel size of only 2.74 µm and employ backside illumination (BSI) technology, enabling high-resolution images with excellent quality and improved light sensitivity. This makes them ideal for precise tasks such as detailed surface inspections or the measurement of increasingly smaller objects.

One notable advantage is that existing systems can be upgraded to higher resolutions without modifying their mechanical setup. The cameras also include a global shutter and short exposure time, allowing reliable capture of fast-moving objects without motion blur. This feature ensures they can keep up with increasing production speeds in industrial environments.

The series expansion begins with the 24 MP IMX540 sensor. Gradual serial production will cover cameras with resolutions ranging from 5 to 20 megapixels.

Comprehensive Sensor Portfolio

The Baumer CX camera line now includes a total of 115 models, providing an extensive range for cross-sector industrial imaging applications. The standard models in the compact 29×29 mm format support modern Sony sensor technologies including Pregius, Pregius S, STARVIS, and Polarsens, as well as ON Semiconductor PYTHON CMOS sensors.

For connectivity and synchronization, the cameras offer various interface options including GigE Vision and USB3 Vision standards. They also feature Precision Time Protocol (PTP) for precise time synchronization in Ethernet-based systems, polarization sensors for complete linear polarization state detection, and support for global, rolling, or reset shutters depending on application needs.

Performance Capabilities

The CX cameras deliver superior image quality combined with high frame rates—even exceeding 1000 fps when using a Region of Interest (ROI). To ensure reliable operation under varying lighting conditions, the cameras include automatic features for exposure control, gain adjustment, white balance, and color transformation.
