Universal Robots’ collaborating robots (cobots) are now easier to set up thanks to the new smart VeriSens vision sensors XF900 and XC900. These robot-compatible vision sensors can be mounted directly on a cobot or above it, allowing quick integration into existing systems.

One standout feature is SmartGrid—a patent-pending technology that automates image distortion calibration, world coordinate conversion, and alignment between the sensor and robot. This eliminates the need for traditional manual “hand-eye” calibration, which was often time-consuming. By simplifying this process, set-up can be completed in just a few minutes.

The installation is straightforward thanks to the VeriSens URCap interface designed specifically for Universal Robots. A minimal number of steps during configuration unlock diverse image processing capabilities. Programmers only need to add two commands (nodes) to leverage Vision Guided Robotics features across various industries.

Instead of relying on taught-in waypoints, users can define free positions where objects are visually recognized. Existing functions also check object overlaps and gripper clearance.

These vision sensors offer more than just detection—they can verify storage areas, perform quality checks for items with variable positioning, and even measure or identify objects—making them versatile across multiple use cases.

Available starting December 2019, the VeriSens XF/XC900 models are ideal for manufacturers looking to streamline their robotic workflows without sacrificing precision.
