Baumer has launched two new ultrasonic sensor series—U500 and UR18. These sensors are designed for maximum durability, offering flexible parameterization via IO-Link to suit a variety of applications.

Robust Design with High Performance

These sensors deliver reliable performance in demanding environments thanks to their robust construction. The hermetically sealed sensor elements provide strong resistance against mechanical stress, ensuring long-term reliability even under extreme conditions. Additionally, the PEEK film sealing allows these sensors to withstand harsh scenarios such as an IP69 waterproof test.

Flexible and Customizable Sensor Adjustment

The U500 and UR18 families are equipped with IO-Link technology, enabling easy parameterization through a user-friendly interface. For instance, users can quickly adjust the sonic beam angle according to their container size or filling medium. Furthermore, IO-Link supports advanced features like predictive maintenance data acquisition and parameter server functions.

Even outside of IO-Link configuration, users have the option to manually set parameters directly on the sensor using qTeach (without requiring a ferromagnetic tool). This flexibility ensures that adjustments can be made efficiently for specific needs.

Consistent Functionality Across Different Designs

The range of functionalities remains consistent regardless of whether you choose cubic or cylindrical designs. Sensor principles, such as proximity switches and distance measurement, are available in various configurations including 1- or 2-point operation modes (retro-reflective, through-beam). These options make the sensors suitable for different detection scenarios.

Performance Overview

The U500 and UR18 ultrasonic sensors feature a short blind range of just 70 mm, enabling precise measurements nearly to their surface with an operating range up to 1000 mm. These advanced devices are set to replace older models from Baumer’s previous product families.
