The Imaging Source Unveils IC Imaging Control 4: A New Era for Machine Vision Software
The Imaging Source has a long history of innovation in image processing, evolving alongside advancements in machine vision technology for over thirty years. This evolution has led to increasingly sophisticated software solutions for a wide range of machine vision systems and integrators. However, this growth also introduced complexities, prompting a strategic shift towards a unified software environment.
Introducing IC Imaging Control 4
IC Imaging Control 4 represents The Imaging Source’s commitment to a streamlined approach to machine vision software. This unified environment is built around the GenICam GenTL standard, designed to optimize cross-platform integration for industrial cameras.
Key Features of IC Imaging Control 4:
- Multi-Language Support: Native support for .NET, Python, C++, and C, utilizing a unified Application Programming Interface (API).
- GenICam Compliance: Fully compliant with the GenICam standard, ensuring comprehensive access to camera features and enhanced interoperability with popular third-party software like MATLAB and NeuroCheck.
- Intuitive SDK: A Software Development Kit (SDK) for precise camera configuration and control, including single image capture, sequential image acquisition, and video recording.
- Example Programs: A variety of example programs are available on GitHub.
- Platform Support: Comprehensive support for Windows, with expanded compatibility for Linux x64 and ARM platforms scheduled for release in Q3 2024.
Transitioning to IC Imaging Control 4
The API documentation includes guidance for users transitioning from previous versions of IC Imaging Control. Immediate porting of existing projects using IC Control 3.x is not necessary, as previous versions will continue to be supported. New projects, particularly those utilizing GigE Vision and USB3 Vision cameras, should ideally be developed using IC4 to leverage advanced camera features and ensure future readiness.
Future Roadmap
The development of IC Imaging Control 4 is focused on continuous improvement and expansion:
- January 1, 2024: Initial Release – IC4, GenTL Producers for GigE Vision Cameras, USB3 Vision Cameras (beta), and Non-GenICam Cameras (beta).
- Q2 2024: Release GenTL Producer for USB3 Vision Cameras.
- Q3 2024: Release Linux support.
