The Source Show: Polarization Cameras Demonstrate Material Stress Visualization
The Imaging Source Participates in AOI Forum & Show
On October 3, 2019, The Imaging Source attended this year’s AOI Forum & Show hosted by the Automatic Optical Inspection Equipment Association (AOIEA) at National Chiao Tung University. This annual event brings together system integrators, component suppliers, and academic researchers to explore advancements in optical inspection technology.
The highlight of their demonstration featured a new 5.1 MP polarization camera equipped with Polarsens™ sensors. These cameras showcase innovative capabilities by visualizing material stress and surface defects through advanced polarimetric processing.
How It Works:
PolarSens™ global-shutter CMOS image sensors leverage intrinsic polarization properties to capture detailed images of material stress or scratches on surfaces. At the booth, the sensor’s multi-directional on-chip filters (0°, 45°, 90°, and 135°) enabled real-time visualization of material stress in a transparent plastic object through AoLP processing and HSV color mapping.
Key Features:
- Available with USB 3.0 or GigE Vision interfaces
- USB 3.0: Max. 75 fps
- GigE Vision: Max. 24 fps
- Applications include reducing glare, improving edge detection, enhancing contrast in low-contrast materials, and visualizing surface defects
