Practical evaluation of a camera-integrated eyepiece for microscope imaging at various zoom levels.
Practical Tests
Screen Image
Based on all tests conducted, proper adjustment of the camera and its accompanying eyepiece barrel (diameter: 30mm) on the binocular head ensures a usable screen image quality. The resulting digital projection provides clear images with minimal vignetting or distortion. The captured image appears sharp across most viewing conditions. In Figure 1 above, you can see that the system offers good edge contrast and clarity when attached to various microscope setups.
Combination with Other Eyepieces
The camera eyepiece might not be compatible with all trinocular tubes; for example, on the Leica DMLB stereo microscope’s C-Mount port due to its specialized projection eyepiece. However, by removing the included camera eyepiece and attaching it directly onto many other microscopes with similarly sized eyepieces (e.g., diameter), such as the Periplan GF 10x/18 from a Leitz HM-Lux student microscope, the camera can be effectively integrated.
Edge Focus Comparison
The following sections compare the performance of various combinations for edge focus and contrast. Figure 9 shows an image captured with the camera’s included eyepiece on a stereo microscope at low magnification.
