December 1, 2023 – Copenhagen – Japanese Automation Industries (JAI), a global leader in industrial cameras, today celebrated its 60th corporate anniversary. Founded in Denmark in 1963 by Jørgen Andersen, the company specializes in designing, manufacturing, and selling area scan and line scan cameras for factory automation systems, food sorting, semiconductor inspection, life sciences, intelligent traffic systems, and other industrial applications worldwide.

A Legacy of Innovation

JAI’s journey began with its first industrial camera, engineered 50 years ago—a milestone that continues to influence machine vision technology today. Since then, the company has grown through organic expansion and strategic acquisitions, including a Japanese industrial camera manufacturer and California-based Pulnix. These moves solidified JAI’s position as a global provider of advanced cameras and expanded its expertise into specialized traffic systems and multispectral imaging solutions.

Robust Product Portfolio

Today, JAI offers more than 100 standard feature-rich industrial camera models alongside high-resolution and multi-sensor cameras designed for complex vision requirements. These include prism-based multi-sensor cameras prized for their color accuracy in food sorting, pharmaceuticals, printing, and life sciences applications.

Prism-Based Technology: A Key Differentiator

JAI’s innovative prism technology enables advanced imaging solutions not commonly available from other manufacturers. This includes 3-sensor prism-based area scan and line scan cameras used in multispectral imaging, combining visible light with near-infrared (NIR) or short-wave infrared (SWIR) wavelengths to detect defects invisible under standard conditions.

Commitment to Quality and Customer Collaboration

According to Jørgen Andersen, the company’s longevity stems from its dual focus on innovation and unwavering quality standards. “We develop new cameras in close collaboration with customers to enhance their vision systems’ efficiency,” he notes. “Customers expect exceptional reliability alongside superior performance.”

Andersen emphasizes that high-quality components, low-noise designs, innovative technologies like prism-based imaging, and rigorous quality assurance have been central to JAI’s success—selling over one million cameras in the past six decades.

Looking Ahead

As chairman of the board, Andersen remains actively involved in shaping JAI’s future direction. Reflecting on 60 years of milestones, he expresses optimism about continued innovation: “The vision industry is full of possibilities, and we’re excited to embrace the opportunities ahead.”
