JAI has expanded its Fusion Series of multi-spectral industrial cameras with a new area scan model featuring three independent multispectral wavebands. This innovative camera, designated as the FS-1600T-10GE-NNM, incorporates Sony Pregius IMX273 CMOS sensors delivering 1.6-megapixel resolution across all imaging channels.

Simultaneous Multispectral Imaging Capabilities

The camera employs a specialized dichroic prism to split incoming light into three distinct spectral bands while maintaining a unified optical path. This unique design enables simultaneous capture of high-resolution images—producing one monochrome image alongside two separate near-infrared (NIR) images—with pixel-perfect alignment at up to 213 frames per second.

By separating NIR information into “low” and “high” bands, this camera assists system designers in extracting enhanced material characteristics. This approach leverages how certain biological substances, food items, chemicals, and other materials manifest differently across portions of the NIR spectrum—providing valuable insights for life science applications and quality inspection tasks.

The prism-based design eliminates the need for costly multiple-camera/lighting setups or complex filter-wheel systems that introduce mechanical motion challenges. This streamlined approach dramatically simplifies multi-spectral vision system implementation while maintaining exceptional performance characteristics.

Enhanced Sensitivity in NIR Bands

Compared to previous models, the new CMOS-based camera demonstrates nearly doubled sensitivity in the lower NIR band (700-800 nm) and approximately 20% increased sensitivity in the upper NIR band (820-1000 nm). These improvements translate directly into superior image quality under typical operating conditions—requiring less illumination while maintaining adequate signal-to-noise ratios for precise inspection.

High-Performance Networking with 10 GigE Interface

The camera’s exceptional throughput capabilities are supported by a cutting-edge 10GBASE-T (10 GigE) interface featuring integrated auto-negotiation technology. This provides seamless backward compatibility with NBASE-T (5 Gbps and 2.5 Gbps) and traditional 1000BASE-T (1 Gbps) networks—offering maximum flexibility for various industrial networking environments.

The camera supports multiple output formats including standard 8-bit, as well as higher-resolution 10-bit and 12-bit options that can be independently configured for visible monochrome channels versus NIR bands. The interface complies with GigE Vision 2.0 standards and employs a triple-stream approach over a single cable—significantly simplifying system integration.

Additional features include Precision Time Protocol (IEEE 1588) support for network-level synchronization in multi-camera systems, making this camera ideal for complex industrial vision applications requiring precise temporal alignment between multiple devices.

Physical Specifications

The FS-1600T-10GE-NNM measures 62 mm x 62 mm x 86.5 mm with a C-mount lens interface—designed for easy integration into existing vision systems while maintaining compact form factor requirements.
