JAI today announced two new additions to its Sweep+ Series of prism-based line scan cameras: the SW-8000T-10GE and SW-8000T-SFP. These 3-CMOS models deliver three-channel (R/G/B) color imaging at 8K resolution, marking an extension to a family that already includes two 4-CMOS multispectral cameras launched this month.

The new cameras are equipped with three separate CMOS sensors behind a dichroic prism, which splits incoming light into red, green and blue channels. This optical design ensures precise color separation delivers exceptional spectral purity while eliminating the need for complex wavelength-specific filters or filter wheels used in conventional single-sensor line scan cameras, thereby improving image quality by reducing chromatic aberration issues and enhancing overall imaging performance.

Key Highlights

  • High resolution: The SW-8000T models capture images at 8K resolution (over 8 million pixels), enabling high-fidelity color capture. This superior resolution provides exceptional detail for demanding applications requiring precise color information or multi-spectral capabilities.

Superior Performance

These advanced sensors feature rectangular pixel sizes measuring 3.75 x 5.78 µm arranged in a dual-line format, providing flexibility through ROI functions and pixel binning options to increase sensitivity under low-light conditions while maintaining high resolution even at faster line rates.

Advanced Output Capabilities

The SW-8000T models support multiple output formats including uncompressed RGB transmission or YUV compressed modes. For instance, they can transmit full-resolution color data in either an uncompressed RGB format (up to 49,000 lines per second) or via two high-performance YUV compressed formats (YUV422_8 or UYVY_YUY422). The SW-8000Q models offer multispectral performance up to 36K line rates.

Technical Specifications

Enhanced Interface Flexibility

The full resolution image data can be transmitted in either uncompressed RGB format or compressed YUV formats, allowing users flexibility based on their specific application needs. This design ensures minimal loss of color information while enabling efficient transmission speeds.

Flexible Output Options

The SW-8000T cameras support multiple output configurations:

  • Uncompressed RGB: Up to 49,000 lines per second for 24-bit output
  • Compressed YUV: Up to 73,000 lines per second in either of two compressed formats

Advanced Imaging Features

The cameras also feature built-in color space conversion functions that allow outputs in various standard or custom RGB spaces including sRGB and Adobe RGB. Additionally, the SW-8000T models support high-speed performance through region-of-interest (ROI) cropping and pixel binning.

Technical Highlights

Backward-Compatible Interfaces

The SW-8000T-SFP variant supports longer cable lengths with low latency for more flexible system designs. This is achieved using an Enhanced Small Form-factor Pluggable Plus interface that enables GigE Vision data transfer via fiber optic cables, ideal for applications requiring long-distance transmission and reduced delay.
