JAI has introduced a new generation of prism cameras within its popular Fusion Series of multispectral imaging solutions. The latest additions to this series are the FS-3200D-10GE and FS-1600D-10GE models, which feature advanced two-channel dichroic prisms. These prisms divide incoming light precisely between two CMOS area scan imagers, enabling simultaneous capture of visible and near-infrared (NIR) spectra without the need for additional hardware or complex setups.

Key Features and Technical Specifications

Both camera models utilize Sony Pregius sensors to deliver high-resolution imaging:

  • The FS-3200D-10GE employs a Sony IMX252 sensor, providing 3.2-megapixel resolution (2048 × 1536 pixels) and a maximum frame rate of 123 fps for standard 8-bit output.
  • The FS-1600D-10GE uses the Sony IMX273 sensor, offering 1.6-megapixel resolution (1440 × 1080 pixels) and a peak frame rate of 226 fps for 8-bit output.

These cameras are equipped with a 10GBASE-T GigE Vision 2.0 interface, supporting backward compatibility with NBASE-T (5 Gbps, 2.5 Gbps) and traditional 1000BASE-T standards. Additionally, users can choose between 8-bit, 10-bit, or 12-bit output formats for both the visible spectrum channel (Bayer color sensor) and NIR channel (monochrome sensor).

Enhanced Sensitivity and Throughput
Compared to earlier Fusion Series models—which had a maximum resolution of 1.3 megapixels and frame rate capped at 31 fps—the new cameras offer significantly improved performance, including higher sensitivity in the NIR range. This translates to better image quality even under low-light conditions.

Applications Across Industries
The dual-channel design allows for versatile multispectral analysis tasks:

  • Fruit and vegetable sorting: Bruises and moisture content can be detected using the NIR channel, while visible defects are identified via the color sensor.
  • Food inspection: Foreign objects (e.g., rocks or plastic) stand out more clearly in the visible spectrum, making them easier to spot during quality control.
  • Packaging and labeling: The visible light channel inspects barcodes and printed text, while the NIR sensor analyzes ink composition for authenticity checks.

The compact dimensions of both cameras (62 mm × 62 mm × 86.5 mm) make them suitable for integration into various industrial systems with C-mount lens compatibility.
