JAI has introduced a groundbreaking addition to its Sweep+ Series camera family with the SW-4000T-MCL, a new 3-CMOS prism color line scan camera. This innovative device features three custom CMOS line sensors, each boasting 4K resolution (4096 pixels), mounted on a high-grade optical prism assembly. The prism precisely splits incoming light into distinct red, green, and blue wavebands, ensuring exceptional color fidelity.

Superior Performance

The SW-4000T-MCL delivers 24-bit non-interpolated RGB output at speeds up to 67.7 kHz (67,700 lines per second)—more than four times faster than any previous 4K prism-based line scan camera. This exceptional speed positions it as one of the fastest 4K color line scan cameras available, regardless of trilinear or prism design.

The increased line rate offers a significant advantage for designers of color line scan inspection systems. They can now achieve higher color and spatial precision without sacrificing image quality—a critical benefit when compared to traditional trilinear cameras.

Flexible Pixel Options

To support its high-speed operation, the SW-4000T-MCL includes two user-selectable pixel modes:

  1. 7.5-micron square pixels: Ideal for short exposure times at maximum line rates, offering high responsivity.
  2. 7.5-micron by 10. micron pixels: Features larger pixel wells for enhanced dynamic range and contrast in low-light conditions or slower line rate scenarios.

Advanced Binning Capabilities

Each CMOS sensor supports two adjacent lines per mode, enabling horizontal binning, vertical binning, or a combination of both. Additionally, the sensor’s readout architecture allows dual-pixel signal amplification through a single diffusion node, effectively doubling the signal without increasing noise. This binning process dramatically improves sensitivity, making it ideal for challenging imaging conditions.

This advanced binning technology was first introduced in JAI’s 4K trilinear camera (SW-4000TL-PMCL) earlier this year and remains exclusive to JAI.

Expanded Color Output

Another unique feature of the SW-4000T-MCL is its built-in color conversion capability. Beyond standard RGB output, it supports native HSI or CIEXYZ formats. Users can also convert from RGB to sRGB or Adobe RGB color spaces—or define a custom RGB matrix—ensuring compatibility with various applications.

Simplified Encoder Integration

For encoder connection, the camera features four separate input lines and built-in algorithms supporting direct integration with up to two rotary encoders. This eliminates the need for frame grabber connections, reducing cable complexity and minimizing signal dropouts. While users can still utilize the traditional Camera Link interface if preferred, this new approach streamlines system design.

Standard Features

Additional standard features include gain adjustment, black level control, manual or automatic white balancing, shading correction, PRNU and DSNU noise reduction, and chromatic aberration compensation—all ensuring high image quality under diverse conditions.

Connectivity Options

The SW-4000T-MCL employs a GenICam and Gen-CP compliant Camera Link interface with Mini CL connectors. Configurations range from Base to Deca, depending on the required bit depth and line rate. Users can select between 3 × 8-bit or 3 × 10-bit output channels.

The camera also includes a 12-pin Hirose connector and a 10-pin auxiliary connector with three TTL inputs, one opto-isolated input, and four TTL outputs for expanded connectivity options.

Versatile Mounting Options

Finally, the SW-4000T-MCL supports two lens mount configurations: Nikon F-mount or M52 mount, offering flexibility for various industrial applications.
