JAI Introduces New High-Speed Trilinear Color Line Scan Camera: SW-4000TL-PMCL
JAI has expanded its Sweep Series camera family with a new high-speed trilinear color line scan camera, the SW-4000TL-PMCL. As JAI’s first trilinear model, this camera boasts a custom CMOS imager delivering 4K resolution (4096 pixels) and supports a maximum full line rate of 66 kHz for non-interpolated RGB output in 24-bit color.
Expanding Design Options
This new addition broadens the capabilities for engineers designing color line scan systems. Traditionally, these applications relied on JAI’s Sweep+ Series prism-based cameras to achieve optimal color image fidelity, sensitivity, and configuration flexibility. The SW-4000TL-PMCL now offers an attractive alternative for scenarios where ultimate precision from prism cameras is not essential.
Key Features
The camera incorporates several unique features:
-
Horizontal and Vertical Binning:
Its custom CMOS imager includes six separate lines with two rows each of red, green, and blue pixels. This configuration enables horizontal binning, vertical binning, or combinations of both – a capability not found in other high-speed trilinear cameras.Furthermore, the sensor’s readout architecture allows signal doubling from two pixels through a single diffusion node without increasing noise. This significantly enhances sensitivity during binning operations.
-
Built-in Color Space Conversion:
The camera offers native HSI and CIEXYZ color output alongside conversions to standard RGB formats (sRGB or Adobe RGB) and support for user-defined custom RGB conversion matrices. -
Direct Encoder Connection & Auto-Direction Detection:
Supporting up to two rotary encoders, this feature simplifies cabling by eliminating the need for frame grabber connections. The camera’s algorithms can also detect changes in scan direction and automatically adjust spatial compensation accordingly – ideal for applications like reciprocating slide tables. -
Additional Features:
Other standard capabilities include gain and black level adjustments, white balancing (manual or automatic), shading correction, PRNU/DSNU noise reduction, and time-stamped line data.
Interface Options
The SW-4000TL-PMCL utilizes a Camera Link interface with Mini CL connectors. The camera supports different configurations based on bit depth requirements: Base, Medium, Full, or Deca. Users can select from either 3×8-bit or 3×10-bit output formats.
Power delivery options include sourcing power through the Camera Link interface or connecting to the camera’s 12-pin Hirose connector for separate power supply.
Lens Mount Compatibility
Two lens mount types are available: Nikon F-mount and M42x1 with a 16 mm flange back distance.
Typical Applications
This versatile camera is well-suited for various inspection tasks, including:
- Printed materials
- Textiles
- Plastic films or sheeting
- Roofing materials
- Medical slides
