Industrial inspection systems require flexibility to adapt quickly to new products or changing requirements—especially in Industry 4.0 scenarios where batch sizes can be as small as one piece. Fixed focal length lenses often limit this flexibility, leading to complex setups and slower operations. To address these challenges, SVS-Vistek has introduced the SVS-EF adapter, enabling direct control of Canon EF-mount lenses from their cameras.

The Need for Flexibility

Many industrial inspection solutions still rely on fixed focal length lenses. However, there is a growing demand for more adaptable systems. Focusable lenses allow users to inspect objects of varying sizes quickly and efficiently. With the new SVS-EF adapter, SVS-Vistek’s EXO, FXO, and HR series cameras now support Canon EF-mount focusable lenses, simplifying system integration.

Simplified Integration

Previously, finding compatible camera-lens combinations for flexible inspection was challenging. Users often had to integrate proprietary drivers or deal with mismatched components, increasing complexity. The SVS-EF adapter provides a straightforward solution: it allows seamless integration of Canon EF and EF-S lenses into SVS-Vistek cameras without additional hardware or software requirements.

Cameras Take Control

The design is intuitive—similar to SLR cameras, the lens should be controlled by the camera itself. The new SVS-EF adapter handles this by integrating the lens directly into the camera’s GenICam tree. It also manages power supply for the lens. This works with all EXO, FXO, and HR series cameras featuring C-mount, M42, or M58 mounts.

Faster Inspections

Focusable lenses significantly reduce robot arm travel times in automated inspection systems. The SVS-EF adapter enhances performance even at high resolutions, particularly when combined with SVS-Vistek’s integrated multichannel strobe controller for lean and efficient applications.
