Introducing GMAX4651: A High-Performance Image Sensor from GPixel
Global Shutter Excellence in a 4:3 Format
GPixel’s latest innovation, the GMAX4651, stands as a testament to cutting-edge imaging technology. This new image sensor offers top-tier performance with its unique features including a 4:3 aspect ratio and an impressive resolution of 51 megapixels.
At SVS-Vistek, we’ve developed a specialized optimization process for this sensor that serves as the foundation for our hr51 model. This exclusive feature allows compatibility with an expanded range of lenses, enhancing its versatility across various applications.
The Stitched Sensor Architecture
The GMAX4651 employs an innovative assembly approach by combining two central sections with four adjacent lateral strips to form a complete sensor surface. This design addresses the inherent sensitivity gradients typically found in standard CMOS sensors through advanced camera-level compensation.
In stitched sensor configurations, different regions maintain their unique characteristics while seamlessly connecting at the edges - creating image quality comparable to traditional CCD technology taps.
Our exclusive optimization process for this sensor goes beyond basic corrections like fixed pattern noise (FPN) and bad pixel management. It specifically accounts for variations in optical paths between entocentric and telecentric lenses, recognizing that these effects manifest differently across CMOS versus CCD sensors. This comprehensive approach delivers exceptional image homogeneity unmatched by standard solutions.
Cost-Effective High Performance
The hr51 model from SVS-Vistek presents an economical alternative to legacy systems without compromising on performance quality. While the ON Semiconductor KAI29050 (a popular 4:3 format sensor) has been discontinued, existing applications can be easily upgraded by replacing just the camera module.
Remarkably, despite its different design origins, the hr51 maintains compatibility with most existing lenses due to its nearly identical form factor and comparable pixel dimensions. This allows for straightforward integration into current systems while offering significant advantages:
- Resolution: Approximately twice that of KAI29050
- Speed: Nearly four times faster performance
- Cost-effectiveness: Significantly more attractive pricing
The hr51 is available in two interface configurations - CoaXPress and 10GigE - both supporting monochrome and color imaging. As with all SVCam products, it features a sophisticated 4-channel strobe controller integrated within the GenICam framework, ensuring seamless integration with industry-standard software packages through compliance with the GenTL standard.
