We sat down with firmware specialist Heidrun Bohris to learn more about her career journey and experiences at SVS-Vistek. Since joining the company’s development department in 2010, she has brought valuable technical expertise to our team.

Early Life And Career Path

When asked about her childhood aspirations, Heidrun recalled wanting to be a doctor’s assistant according to her mother’s recollection. Her career direction shifted during an apprenticeship as an engineering assistant when she discovered electrical engineering.

Regarding higher education decisions:

  • Ruled out economics-related fields (uncomfortable with taxes)
  • Didn’t pursue language studies due to teaching limitations
  • Not suited for medicine

This led her toward development engineering, which aligned perfectly with what she’d observed during her apprenticeship.

Female In The Male-Dominated Field

Heidrun acknowledged that as a woman working in firmware programming, she’s often one of the few women in hardware teams. While being an exception in hardware departments, she finds more female colleagues in software teams.

Technical Contributions At SVS-Vistek

Her responsibilities include:

  • Programming industrial cameras
  • Controlling image sensors (CCD/CMOS)
  • Implementing image processing techniques
  • Managing data transmission via various interfaces

She explained that what makes FPGA programming fascinating is being directly involved with hardware at a fundamental level, creating a deep satisfaction from seeing real-world results like captured moving images.

Current Projects And Technical Challenges

Currently working on enhancing HR25 and SHR47 models with CoaxPress interface capabilities, including features for image size reduction and rotation. She also mentioned overcoming challenges in debugging concealed errors during prototype development through collaborative teamwork.

Work-Life Balance As A Mother

Heidrun manages her dual roles effectively by adapting to different modes at specific times throughout the day.

Regarding childcare arrangements:

  • Accesses daycare/Kindergarten services with ease
  • Maintains flexible working hours (e.g., leaving early for doctor visits, extending workdays when family support is available)

Personal Interests Outside Work

When not coding, Heidrun enjoys household chores and helping her daughter with homework. Her hobbies include yoga, swimming, hiking.

Health Considerations During Illness

For managing colds or sniffles while minimizing risk to workplace equipment:

  • Prioritizes fresh air exposure
  • Uses cycling for transportation when possible
