Teledyne e2v, a subsidiary of Teledyne Technologies (NYSE: TDY), today announced the expansion of its Flash™ CMOS image sensor family with the introduction of the Flash 2K LSA. This new variant is specifically engineered for laser profiling applications that demand Large Scheimpflug Angles (LSA).

Key Features

The Flash series, including the new Flash 2K LSA, are optimized for demanding tasks in 3D laser profiling and high-speed inspection. For applications requiring large angles, this latest iteration significantly enhances angular response:

  • Enhanced performance at 30°: Four times better than standard
  • Even greater improvement at 40°: Seven times the typical response

This enhancement allows users to optimize laser line intensity system-wide when working with larger Scheimpflug angles.

The sensor maintains a 6 µm CMOS global shutter pixel design, delivering both high resolution and rapid frame rates. It inherits other advanced features from its predecessors:

  • HDR modes reaching 100 dB
  • Multiple Regions of Interest (ROI)
  • On-the-fly adjustments between frames

Broader Flash Sensor Portfolio

The new Flash 2K LSA joins an established family that includes the popular Flash 2K and Flash 4K models:

Model Resolution Frame Rate
Flash 2K 2K x 1K Up to 1,500 fps
Flash 4K 4K x 1K Up to 1,800 fps

All variants offer flexibility regarding optional elements like standard micro-lenses and glass lids.

Industry Impact

Yoann Lochardet, Teledyne e2v’s Marketing Manager for 3D imaging systems, commented: “This new Flash 2K variant represents a significant step forward. By providing compatibility across all Scheimpflug angles while maintaining the same sensor platform, we’re enabling customers to simplify their camera designs and streamline production.”

Availability

The complete Flash CMOS image sensor line is now available with various configurations including standard micro-lenses or specialized glass components.
