Teledyne DALSA Introduces New Xtium2-XGV PX8 GigE Vision Frame Grabber
In the world of machine vision and industrial imaging, speed, reliability, and efficiency are critical. Teledyne DALSA, a leader in digital imaging solutions, has once again raised the bar with the launch of its newest image acquisition board: the Xtium™2-XGV PX8. This innovative device is designed to handle high-speed GigE Vision® data streams with minimal latency and maximum reliability.
Key Features at a Glance
The Xtium2-XGV PX8 boasts several groundbreaking features that set it apart from traditional frame grabbers:
- Real-Time Depacketization Engine: Converts GigE Vision image packets into ready-to-use images on the fly, eliminating delays often associated with software-based processing.
- Hardware-Assisted Packet Resend Logic: Enhances image transfer reliability while reducing CPU overhead—a critical advantage for real-time applications.
- Multi-Camera Support: Capable of handling data from up to 32 cameras simultaneously, regardless of whether they are single-port or multi-port devices.
This device operates on a PCI Express™ Gen 3.0 x8 platform and comes in two configurations: four-port SFP+ or two-port SFP+. It can sustain an aggregate input bandwidth of 4 GByte/s (equivalent to 4x10Gb/s) and deliver up to 6.8 GBytes/sec output bandwidth directly to the host memory.
On-the-Fly Format Conversions
Another standout feature is its ability to perform real-time format conversions such as Bayer to RGB, Bi-colour to RGB, and more before sending images to the host computer. This capability significantly reduces processing time and enhances system performance.
Reliability Enhancements
For mission-critical applications, reliability is paramount. The Xtium2-XGV PX8 includes:
- Hardware-Assisted Packet Resend: Ensures that even in challenging network conditions, image data isn’t lost or corrupted.
- Action Command for External Event Synchronization: Allows users to trigger specific actions based on external events without relying solely on software timers.
Moreover, it can transmit and retransmit IEEE-1588 messages (PTP) directly—without needing an external switch—which is essential for precise time synchronization in distributed systems.
Software Compatibility
The Xtium2-XGV PX8 supports two of the most widely used SDKs in the industry:
- Sapera™ LT: A flexible and scalable software development kit from Teledyne DALSA itself.
- Teledyne FLIR® IIS Spinnaker SDK: A robust toolkit for integrating GigE Vision cameras into various applications.
Availability and Support
The best way to experience the Xtium2-XGV PX8’s capabilities is through a live demonstration. The device will be showcased at the International Technical Exhibition on Image Technology and Equipment (ITE) in Yokohama, Japan from December 6-8, 2023. Visitors can stop by Teledyne DALSA stand D-04 to see it in action or contact them online for more details.
