Teledyne e2v, a division of Teledyne Technologies [NYSE: TDY], has announced the release of its Hydra3D+ sensor. This new Time-of-Flight (ToF) CMOS image sensor offers an 832 x 600 pixel resolution and is optimized for versatile 3D detection and measurement.

Hydra3D+ leverages Teledyne e2v’s proprietary CMOS technology with a brand-new 10 µm three-tap pixel design. This configuration provides rapid transfer times (starting at 10ns) and high sensitivity in the near-infrared spectrum, along with excellent demodulation contrast. The combination of these features allows real-time operation free from motion artifacts—even when tracking fast-moving objects—and maintains low temporal noise at close range. These capabilities are ideal for applications such as pick-and-place systems, logistics automation, factory operations, and industrial safety.

The sensor’s innovative on-chip multi-system management feature ensures compatibility with multiple active systems without interference, preventing erroneous measurements. Additionally, Hydra3D+’s high sensitivity enables efficient lighting control across varying reflectivity conditions. Its resolution, coupled with onboard HDR functionality that supports flexible configuration, allows for an optimal balance between key application parameters like detection range, target reflectivity, and frame rate—making it suitable for medium- to long-range applications including automated guided vehicles (AGVs), surveillance systems, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), and building construction.

Designed with real-time 3D detection flexibility in mind while maintaining top-tier performance across all conditions—including multiple system operation or outdoor environments—Hydra3D+ utilizes a compact sensor that captures both 2D and 3D data. This design enhances the cost-effectiveness of integrated systems considerably.
