Teledyne DALSA has announced the release of Sapera™ Vision Software Edition 2020-09. This latest suite includes Sapera Processing and Astrocyte™, a new graphical application designed for artificial intelligence tasks.

Astrocyte™ 1.0 introduces an AI-based tool focused on training neural networks with 2D images across various applications. Users can perform classification, object detection, segmentation, and noise reduction directly through its intuitive graphical interface. The trained models can then be exported to Sapera Processing for integration into end-user applications.

Sapera Processing 9.0 enhances this workflow by providing classes for AI inference and supporting the import of Astrocyte™-trained models. This facilitates seamless execution within user-developed software without requiring additional cloud-based resources, ensuring data privacy throughout the process.

Bruno Ménard, Software Director at Teledyne DALSA, emphasized that “Astrocyte enables rapid deployment of AI applications while maintaining strict adherence to data privacy standards.” Users can import training images, train neural networks, and export model files with minimal effort—requiring just a few mouse clicks per step.

The updated Sapera Vision Software is particularly well-suited for industries such as automated surface inspection on metal plates, hardware component identification, vehicle detection and segmentation systems, and medical imaging solutions like x-ray noise reduction.

Astrocyte Key Features

  • Graphical User Interface supports rapid application development
  • Training operates locally on user PCs to maintain complete data privacy
  • Multiple deep learning architectures accommodate diverse use cases
  • Performance visualization includes numerical metrics and heatmaps
  • Export capability enables integration with Sapera Processing for runtime inference
