Teledyne e2v, a subsidiary of Teledyne Technologies (NYSE: TDY), has introduced the Emerald 36M, a groundbreaking image sensor with 37.7 megapixels. This new addition is tailored for demanding industrial and outdoor applications that require both high resolution and speed.

Key Features

The Emerald 36M uniquely combines a 6K square resolution with an exceptional frame rate. It delivers low noise, high quantum efficiency, and wide angular response—all crucial for capturing clear images in challenging conditions. Available in two versions—ultra-high speed (86fps) and high-speed (43fps)—the sensor ensures smooth operation at full resolution.

Design and Integration

Engineered for seamless integration with cost-effective FPGAs, the Emerald 36M uses a ceramic µPGA package compatible with standard Four Thirds optics. This makes it the highest-resolution global shutter sensor available in such compact lenses. Its pin-to-pin optical compatibility with the Emerald 67M allows designers to create cameras supporting multiple resolutions and speeds.

Applications

This versatile sensor is ideal for factory automation, surveillance systems requiring broader fields of view, and security solutions needing higher autonomy. As noted by Marie-Charlotte Leclerc from Teledyne e2v, the sensor enhances accuracy in vision systems while expanding capabilities beyond industrial settings—particularly for aerial mapping and security.

Availability

Evaluation kits and sample sensors are now available through Teledyne e2v’s website or direct contact.
