Teledyne e2v announced an expansion of its Emerald family of CMOS image sensors. The new addition is the EmeraldTM 5M sensor, designed for machine vision and Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) applications requiring high-resolution images without distortion.

This sensor comes in both monochrome and color variants, featuring a compact 1/1.8 inch optical format with 2.8µm low-noise global shutter pixels arranged in a 2,560 x 1,936 array. It can stream video at 50 fps with 10-bit resolution via the MIPI CSI-2 interface (up to four wires).

  • Optimization for Machine Vision: Incorporates 5° Chief Ray Angle compensation.

The EmeraldTM 5M offers R&D engineers greater flexibility due to its global shutter and MIPI CSI-2 interface, making it compatible with the latest mobile Image Signal Processors (ISP). Its on-chip digital capabilities—including multi-region of interest support, subsampling, first-frame auto exposure, single frame HDR mode, and integrated statistics—reduce processing demands and accelerate time-to-market.
