Teledyne e2v Launches Emerald 67M: High-Resolution Global Shutter Sensor for Industrial Imaging
Teledyne Technologies’ imaging solutions division, Teledyne e2v, today announced the release of its newest sensor in the Emerald CMOS family. The Emerald 67M is a groundbreaking high-resolution device featuring an ultra-small pixel size with a global shutter, ideal for demanding applications such as automated optical inspection (AOI), microscopy, and surveillance.
Key Specifications
- Resolution: 8192 x 8192 pixels
- Pixel Size: 2.5µm – the smallest global shutter pixel on the market
- Readout Noise: 2.8e- for ultra-low noise performance
- Quantum Efficiency (QE): 70% for high sensitivity in defect detection and particle identification
- Optical Format: APS-C (unusual for its resolution class)
- Output Interface: Up to 72 sub-LVDS outputs
- Digital Conversion Modes: Supports 8/10/12-bit formats
Sensor Design and Integration
The Emerald 67M is designed with manufacturing in mind. Its compact size (59 x 59mm²) ensures easy integration into camera systems, while its fully aligned optical and package centers streamline assembly processes.
Advanced Application Features
Emerald 67M includes several application-specific enhancements:
- Region of Interest (ROI): Allows flexible image cropping with support for overlap and independent configurations
- High Dynamic Range Modes: Improves imaging in challenging lighting conditions
- Horizontal Sub-sampling: Enables efficient data compression without compromising quality
- Look-up Table: Adjusts pixel values for specific color or brightness requirements
- Binning Modes: Combines multiple pixels to enhance signal-to-noise ratios
- Pixel Defect Correction: Automatically compensates for dead or hot pixels
Industry Impact
Vincent Richard, Marketing Manager at Teledyne e2v, commented: “The introduction of Emerald 67M represents a significant advancement in our sensor portfolio. As the first 8192 x 8192 global shutter sensor capable of high frame rates with comprehensive feature sets, it addresses vibration-related image instability issues common in inspection systems.”
