e2v, a global leader in high-performance imaging solutions, has announced that its innovative CMOS image sensors have been selected by Cognex—a prominent manufacturer of industrial ID cameras and systems—for their advanced image-based reading products.

The collaboration centers on the use of e2v’s EV76C560 1.3MP CMOS image sensor, which has been chosen to meet the demanding performance requirements for certain models within Cognex’s DataMan® line of industrial scanning and identification devices. This sensor offers multiple shutter modes and specialized features optimized for industrial imaging applications.

“Cognex chose e2v as a key technology partner to ensure our market-leading products maintain their edge in this competitive sector,” stated Carl Gerst, Vice President and General Manager of Cognex’s ID business unit.

In response, Gareth Powell, Marketing Manager at e2v’s industrial image sensors division, expressed enthusiasm: “We are thrilled to become a trusted component supplier for Cognex. As leaders in the industrial ID and machine vision industries, we look forward to evolving our product roadmap to support their future needs.”

e2v’s expanding lineup of high-sensitivity CMOS sensors targets various demanding applications, including industrial machine vision, barcode scanning, surveillance systems, intelligent traffic cameras, and more. The latest addition is the EV76C570, a 1600 x 1200 pixel sensor derived from the existing 1.3MP model. Prototype samples are scheduled to be available in Q1 2012.

Additionally, e2v’s ‘Ruby’ family (comprising the EV76C660 and EV76C661) is now sampling. These sensors feature sensitivity levels exceeding what was previously thought possible with traditional front-side illuminated devices, featuring a pixel size of 5.3µm. With Quantum Efficiency (QE) surpassing 80% and outstanding near-infrared (NIR) performance (>50% at 850nm), these devices can drastically cut illumination costs or facilitate operation in low-light conditions without additional lighting.

Notably, the EV76C560, EV76C570, EV76C660, and EV76C661 share common packaging, pin-out configurations, and software interfaces. This compatibility enables developers to create a diverse array of industrial camera products using a unified hardware and software framework.

Attend our live demonstration at Vision 2011 in Stuttgart from November 8-10 at Hall 4, Booth C 16.
