Teledyne Technologies, a global leader in digital X-ray imaging solutions, announced today that it has acquired the patents and intellectual property (IP) portfolio of SigmaScreening B.V. The acquisition includes exclusive rights to advanced algorithms for pressure-sensitive breast compression technology used in screening and diagnostic applications. This strategic move enhances Teledyne DALSA’s capabilities by integrating cutting-edge biomechanical features into its existing imaging systems, further improving image quality and consistency across mammography detectors.

Expanding Diagnostic Possibilities

The combination of high-performance X-ray detectors with pressure-sensitive compression is expected to revolutionize breast imaging. It may enable real-time diagnostic insights and the detection of novel biomarkers for early cancer screening. According to Thorsten Achterkirchen, Vice President and General Manager of Teledyne DALSA’s X-Ray Solutions division:

“We plan to expand our CMOS-based mammography detector lineup with innovative subsystems that optimize breast imaging quality while enhancing patient comfort during screenings and digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) procedures.”

This advancement addresses critical challenges in the field, such as inconsistent compression pressure and variability in breast thickness. Ivo Aarninkhof, CEO of SigmaScreening, emphasized the benefits:

“SigmaScreening is thrilled that our patented technology will now be integrated into Teledyne DALSA’s product line. The pressure-based compression system reduces unnecessary radiation exposure while improving both patient comfort and workflow efficiency.”

Strengthening Research Partnerships

The acquisition also deepens ties with Amsterdam UMC, a key research institution where much of SigmaScreening’s foundational work originated. Teledyne DALSA intends to collaborate closely on new studies focusing on breast imaging technologies, protein analysis systems, and microfluidic lab-on-a-chip applications.
